If it’s your first time in Barcelona, we recommend you stay in the most central locations, with the best transport connections and easy access the most popular sightseeing and attractions. These areas are:
- Gothic Quarter (the old town)
These areas can be easily accessed by metro and bus to the rest of the city and by bus from Plaza de Catalunya to Barcelona Airport.
If budget is a concern and you want to find cheaper accommodation you may wish to consider staying out from the heart of the city centre. Poble Sec, or Montjuïc / Plaça España are perfect locations. For example from Poble Sec to La Rambla is a mere 8 minutes ride on the metro yet the hotels in this area are considerably cheaper than in the heart of the city centre.
The city of Barcelona is much smaller than you could imagine. Plaça de Catalunya (the epicentre) can be reached by subway within a maximum of 45 minutes from the city’s furthest metro stop. However, your subway trip to the city center is most likely significantly less, usually 10 to 15 minutes.
You should ensure that your hotel is within walking distance to a metro stop. You could stay nearly anywhere in the center of the city (zone 1) and still get ready to the sights via the subway system.
Whatever your traveling style is, we collected a selection of our favorite hotel for each type of budget and need.
