The Boqueria market was born as a street market, located in La Rambla, near the emblematic Gran Teatre del Liceu.

The current food market was built in mid XIX Century, back in 1836, with the urbanization of the Rambla and its transformation to the big avenue we know nowadays.

Before being a market, La Boqueria was a Convent, dedicated to St Joseph, that’s why the complete name of the market that you will find on a plate at the entrance is still saying " Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria".

Currently the area of the market occupies more than 2,500 square meters, where you will find over 300 stands, selling both typical Catalan products and exotic ones.

You will find a huge selection of colors, flavors and different products, making the market the perfect spot to take beautiful pictures. Particularly remarkable are the areas with exotic fruits and spices, as well as fish and seafood.

La Boqueria is the perfect place to buy fresh fruit and vegetables and to try delicious local food such as Tapas, Jamón Serrano and much more. As the market is located in the city centre, on the Rambla, you have the opportunity to visit and taste the food offered in bars and restaurants, prepared with fresh products from the market.

Discover all our food tours and visit the market with a local guide to discover all its secrets!

We highly recommend the Street Food Tour, that starts right at the Boqueria Marquet and make you explore the city while tasting local delicacies like jàmon, cheese, appetizers, tapas and much more.
